Our Pharmacists
Edward J. Bechtel, R.Ph.
Ed graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science, in
1981, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy Science. Ed is part of
Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society and is a member of the Lehigh
Valley Pharmacists Association and the Pennsylvania Pharmacists
Association.
Ed joined Bechtel’s Pharmacy, Inc. in the Autumn of 1983, after
working for two years with the Thrift Drug chain. Ed grew up in the
pharmacy, starting as an inventory clerk, then, cashier, tech, intern,
and finally pharmacist.
In his off time, he is an adult volunteer for Boy Scout Troup 58,
serves on the Civil Service Commission of the Borough of Slatington
and supports his church in various functions.
Alaine R. Fichter, PharmD.
Alaine is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, earning her Doctor of
Pharmacy degree in 2008. Alaine is part of Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor
Society. She is a member of the Lehigh Valley Pharmacists
Association and the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association.
She joined Bechtel’s Pharmacy, Inc. as a pharmacist in 2009, after a
short stint with K-Mart Pharmacy. She already had experience at the
pharmacy, earning many of her intern hours at the store.
Outside of work, Alaine can be found on the D&L Trail, volunteering
as a Trail Ambassador.

Our History
Bechtel’s Pharmacy, Inc. has been serving the residents of Slatington and Walnutport Boroughs, and Lehigh and Washington Townships since 1961.
Joseph G. Bechtel, R.Ph., purchased the former Moyer’s Rexall Drug Store, located at 320 Main St. in Slatington, from Charles Moyer and took control of the business on June 19, 1961. Ten years later, he moved the store to its current location on the corner of Main and Center Streets. Mr. Bechtel built his business with excellent service, not just to his customers, but also to his community. He was an active member of the Slatington Chamber of Commerce, Northern Lehigh Jaycees, Rotary Club of Slatington, Lehigh Valley Pharmaceutical Association, and the Assumption B.V.M. Parish, and served on the Slatington Borough Council, showing his commitment to his business, community, and profession.
In 1983, his son, Edward, joined Joe in the business. Ed has followed in his father’s footsteps serving his community, as Committee Chairman for Boy Scout Troup 58 and president of the Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, and his profession, as president of both the Lehigh Valley Pharmacists Association and the PA Pharmacist Association. Ed has also served the citizens of the commonwealth as a member of the State Board of Pharmacy, acting as chairman for two years.
As Joe approached his retirement from full-time work, another son, John, joined the business as its business manager. Jack, as he is known, got involved with the youth sports programs of the Northern Lehigh area, serving as the Director of the NLYAA Basketball program for ten years and coaching baseball, soccer, and basketball. He has served as treasurer of both the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce and the Slatington Library and is a past president of the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce.
The goal of Bechtel’s Pharmacy is to serve the health concerns of the local communities. Ed believes that “Our prescription department is a destination. You are not only getting your medication, but you are also able to tap into the knowledge of our pharmacists.”
Bechtel’s Pharmacy, Inc. is your basic community pharmacy where filling prescriptions has been the main driver over the years. Over the past few years, the pharmacy has expanded their offerings to include adult vaccinations, a medicine synchronization plan, and compliance/adherence packaging The Bechtel’s staff will contact you when prescriptions are ready to be picked up and will run them to your car for curbside delivery. The pharmacy also sells vitamins, over-the-counter medications, some home care items, gifts and greeting cards.
